about

Doyle & Andersson’s style of playing is relatively unusual in Irish music. Very few people consistently combine voice and a single melody instrument – and until now no one has explored voice and harmonica in this manner. On “New Ground” the duo wanted this dialogue between voice and harmonica to take centre stage, hopefully offering another perspective yet remaining clearly within the tradition. That Colm and Joel have great fun and a shared passion for the music can be clearly heard throughout the album. Working intuitively with dynamics, rhythm and pathos it is clear to the listener that the harmonica and this style of traditional Irish singing suit very naturally together. On the album the duo are at times accompanied by John Doyle on guitar, bouzouki or mandola and all three of Colms brothers: Brian, John and Tom sing harmony vocals on some tracks.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to John Doyle for his recording and production magic and of course his consummate musical touch throughout the album. To Brian and Tom Doyle for their tremendous backing vocals, and Esbjörn Hazelius for his generous help during the recording process. Much love and gratitude to our loved ones, families and friends who have supported us on this project. We would like to dedicate this album to all the inspiring traditional musicians who have guided us on this path. Thank you for being our muses!
